History of Michael’s Caterpillar Inc.
Michael’s Caterpillar Inc. was incorporated in May, 2013, months after Michael died of a drug overdose. It is structured as a non-profit charitable organization, incorporated in the State of Wyoming and licensed to operate in the State of Washington. The corporation has been designated by the IRS as a 501(c)3 corporation, able to receive contributions from individuals, businesses and public or private grants that will be income tax deductible for the donor in accordance with the regulations of the IRS code.
Currently there is an adult grief group that is being held monthly for parents and/or grandparents who have lost a child to substance related death. Plans are being developed to begin a grief group for teens who are grieving the loss of a sibling, parent, other close relative or friend to addiction related issues. Obviously there are differences in the way that adults and youth deal with the emotional impact of such a loss, so it is not possible to integrate the adult group and youth group.
A second major project is the desire to develop a housed location as a place for youth to congregate under adult supervision after school or on weekends. This will be a place that will be drug free, and with a focus on helping young people to continue to be drug free.
